MARSHALL, Texas — Hearing rapid gunfire near a playground is a nightmare for any teacher but for fifth-grade teacher Demetria McFarland and others at Price T. Young Elementary School, it was a reality on Tuesday.
Marshall Police Department confirmed that a shooting happened around 1:50 p.m. on Aug. 31 when dispatch received a call about a large number of gunshots near the intersection of Sanford and West Meredith Street.
An empty white GMC Yukon was found wrecked at the intersection with several bullet strikes. Witnesses said that three suspects in the Yukon were trading gunfire with another three men in a different car. Blood was found inside the Yukon.
A gold Toyota Camry that had been observed leaving the area of the shooting was found by officers and pulled over. Three adult men were inside the vehicle and were detained.
Three juveniles were also located, and they were also brought to the juvenile processing areas of the Marshall Police Department.
The three adults from Marshall — Tidravion Smith, 18, Deonte Jordan, 24, and Markel May — were each charged with one count of both Deadly Conduct and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity.
All three adults were booked into the Harrison County Jail where they are being held on $100,000 bonds for the Deadly Conduct charge, and $200,000 for the Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity charge.
The juveniles each face the same charges and were transported to the Harrison County Juvenile Detention Center.
It was determined that the blood in the Yukon belonged to a dog that had a grazing injury and no humans were injured during this incident.
