GREGG COUNTY, Texas — Police have learned a man found dead near a pit bull mix dog in Gregg County last week died because of a medical-related condition.

Gregg County Sheriff's Office public information officer Josh Tubb said Jay Sims, of Winona, who was found on Highway 135, just south of FM 1252 on Feb. 10, died of a medical-related condition, not an animal-related attack.

Last week, Sims' body was sent for an autopsy to determine the cause of the death.

At the time, a pit bull mix dog was seized on the property, and officials previously believed an animal attack was involved.
