SHERIFF: Man arrested following standoff in Nacogdoches County

According to the press release, officials responded to the 100 block of Chase Street in Garrison at 6:33 p.m. for a report of an assault.

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas — One man has been arrested following a standoff with police after allegedly assaulting a woman in Nacogdoches County on Tuesday evening.

According to the press release, Nacogdoches County Sheriff's officials responded to the 100 block of Chase Street in Garrison at 6:33 p.m. for a report of an assault.

Officials said the woman suffered injuries to her face and identified the suspect as Larry Dean Hartsfield, 63, of Garrison. 

When officials entered the building, they located Hartsfield with a knife drawn to his chest, threatening to harm himself.

Following de-escalation tactics, officials were able to detain Hartsfield peacefully. He was later taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for a small self-inflicted injury.

The woman was treated by emergency services at the scene and was later released following documentation.

Hartsfield is currently booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail and is charged with a third-degree felony charge of assault of a family member with a previous conviction.
