SHERIFF: 1 dead, 3 injured in Nacogdoches County shooting

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — One person is dead and three more have been hospitalized following a Sunday morning shooting in Nacogdoches County.

According to Nacogdoches County Sheriff Jason Bridges, officials received reports of an active shooter in the area of Sandyland Circle, off County Road 823, in Nacogdoches at about 8:50 a.m.

Sheriff Bridges says the shooting happened while five people were working at a barn. The shooter pulled up toward the barn and opened fire.

Law enforcement responded to the scene and took a person of interest into custody and believe that individual is responsible for the shootings.

Sheriff Bridges says one person is dead and three others were taken to a local hospital with gunshot wounds. Two of those injured have since been released from the hospital.

The condition of the third injured person is not known at this time.

In addition to the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office, the Nacogdoches Police Department and DPS responded to the call. The county's SWAT team was also called into the scene.

Sheriff Bridges says investigators have not yet determined the motive for the shooting and are still on the scene investigating.

The public is urged to stay away from the scene as officials continue their investigation.

Details are limited at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
