'She loved the Lord:' Longview man honors late wife in book about her faith

While looking for a warranty booklet for his broken washing machine, Charlie Farmer stumbled upon poems and songs written by his late wife.

LONGVIEW, Texas — Words hold a lot of power and plenty of meaning. Longview resident Charlie Farmer knows that well as he reads excerpts from a poems and songs written by his late wife, Evelyn.

While looking for a warranty booklet for his broken washing machine, Farmer found these words from one of his wife's poem: "Take time a time out to read and think about, what if God couldn’t take the time to bless us today."

They got married May of 1971, and their marriage was centered around faith.

"She was a non-denominational minister. She was a good cook, a good, a mother, she was really super," Farmer said.

Evelyn died after a five-year battle with cancer in 2019. Farmer found the poems and songs in the fall of 2022.

"I read them and said this needs to be published," Farmer said.

Embracing God’s love by writing poems surrounding faith is what Evelyn loved to do.

"She studied that Bible. She knew it and she loved it. She loved the Lord," Farmer said.

"Embracing God's Love" is the title Farmer gave the book. Reading the words inside that book is hard sometimes for Farmer, but they are memories written on paper that are now shared with the world. Farmer designed the cover with roses because Evelyn loved roses.

"(The poems) just speak so much about today’s happenings and everything that’s going on in the world. God loves us so much and we don’t realize that," Farmer said. "She was so much at peace with the Lord and that’s what the poems told me and that’s why I wanted to get it out. She made everybody feel good."

The book is available for purchase on Amazon
