MARSHALL, Texas — Three men have been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of a 13-year-old East Texas boy.
Donyan Dillard, 35, Devan Hurd, 22, Jaquavious Robinson, 21, all of Marshall, have all been arrested following Tristian Phelps' death from gunshot injuries on Sunday around 2:20 a.m., according to the Marshall Police Department.
According to police, officers responded to the 1100 block of Sanford St., in regards to a shooting in which 20 to 30 shots were fired. That's when they found Phelps critically injured. The boy passed away later at the hospital.
Police said the arrests were made over the past 16 hours. Harrison County Violent Crime and Narcotics Task Force, Marshall Police Department, Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Tyler Police Department, and Jefferson Police Department all worked together to make the arrests.
"While our investigation continues and we make further progress, we remain grateful for the assistance provided by the community. Your cooperation has been invaluable and continues to be crucial," the police said. "We still urge anyone with information about this tragedy to please come forward. Every piece of information, no matter how small it may seem, is vital as we work to bring justice for Tristian."
Police believe the shooting stemmed from an earlier confrontation on Olive Street.
"The men and women of the Marshall Police Department, extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Tristian Phelps during this incredibly difficult time," the MPD said. "The loss of a young life is a tragedy that deeply affects our community. We are committed to thoroughly investigating this incident and ensuring that justice is served."
