Rusk County to hold run off for Republican sheriff nominee

Sheriff Jeff Price received the most votes in the Republican primary, but he failed to receive the required majority to win the nomination.

RUSK COUNTY, Texas — Rusk County voters will return to the polls for a runoff election in May for the Republican nominee for sheriff.

Sheriff Jeff Price received challenges by four other candidates: Johnwayne Valdez, Jesse Stewart and Nathan Parker.

With 100% of precincts reporting, Sheriff Price did receive the most votes, taking 44% of the votes. However, he failed to reach the 50% threshold to secure the nomination.

Price's biggest challenge came from Johnwayne Valdez, who received 30% of the votes. Price and Valdez will face each other in the runoff. Runoff elections in Texas will be held on May 26, according to the Texas Sec. of State Office.

Jesse Stewart and Nathan Parker finished in third and fourth place respectively.
