RUSK COUNTY, Texas — The Rusk County Office of Emergency Management says fire departments in the county responded to multiple fires that were threatening homes on Sunday.
According to the Rusk County OEM, one fire off SH 322, near Lake Cherokee, prompted a response from eight different departments, the Rusk County Sheriff's Office and the Texas A&M Forest Service. The fire burned about 13 acres and has since been 100% contained.
The Rusk County OEM is asking anyone burning to voluntarily extinguish their fires and refrain from burning for the next 48 hours until humidity levels rise.
The Rusk County Commissioners Court will consider a burn ban during their meeting on Monday.
