DPS identifies Tyler man killed after pickup crashes into tanker truck

Officials said the tanker was also leaking large amounts of an oil-type product and the assistance of the Texas Department of Transportation was requested.

RUSK COUNTY, Texas — A truck driver is dead after crashing into the back of an oil tanker early Thursday morning in Rusk County, according to officials.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the oil tanker, driven by Gaylon Wilson, 45, of Tyler, was driving south on US 259 at the same time a truck was moving west on FM 850 toward the intersection. DPS says the truck didn't stop at the sign and ran into the oil tanker.

The truck then spun and came to a stop in the grass. The driver of the truck, identified as Jose Manuel Robles, 42, of Tyler, died, DPS said.

Wilson was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Officials said the tanker was also leaking large amounts of an oil-type product and the assistance of the Texas Department of Transportation was requested.

The investigation is ongoing.
