Robert Taylor receives Half Mile of History honor in Tyler

The decorated Olympic runner and Tyler native will have his legacy live on through the honor.

TYLER — Olympian and Tyler native Robert Taylor is receiving a marker on Tyler's Half Mile of History. Taylor passed away in 2007 and is still the only Olympian from Tyler.

He's also the father of former NFL Player Bobby Taylor. His ceremony was held AT Gallery Main Street in Downtown Tyler.

Taylor's daughter says she's glad his legacy will live on.

"Just to know he will live on this would mean a lot to him,” Taylor’s daughter Cecilee Marie Taylor says. “To know he made something of himself here in Tyler, TX.”

Taylor graduated from Texas Southern University with a degree in education.

He taught at Hogg Middle School in Tyler and then moved to Houston to teach Special Education. Taylor is also in multiple athletic hall of fames.
