Road construction to extend turn lanes on US Highway 79 east of Jacksonville

According to TxDOT, the project includes the extension of a continuous left-turn lane on US 79 and a dedicated right-turn lane at Pebble Beach Drive.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas — Texas Department of Transportation crews will start road construction on Monday, Mary 13 to US Highway 79, east of Jacksonville to extend turn lanes to improve safety. 

According to TxDOT, the project includes the extension of a continuous left-turn lane on US 79 and a dedicated right-turn lane at Pebble Beach Drive. 

Based on weather conditions, workers will start on the right-turn lane on Monday. This phase of the project should last into next week. Once this part is finished, TxDOT will come back in the summer to perform a seal coat and restripe portions of US 79, according to TxDOT. 

Officials said the restriping will extend the existing continuous left-turn lane on US 79, heading east to County Road 1408 near Joe Smith Plant Farm.
