TYLER, Texas — Out of the 329 cities considered, USA Today ranked Tyler as No. 1 for retirees in 2024.
"Tyler, Texas, was ranked the best city in Texas in a separate USA TODAY Homefront study and is also the best city for retirees," the article read.
The towns' rose-based beauty played a role in swaying voters to the top of the rankings, but the tax friendliness, health care availability and cost of living secured Tyler's spot at the top. Attractions such as Lake Tyler and the Caldwell Zoo also put the city in the good graces of the voters.
"All Texans are exempt from retirement income tax, but Tyler residents can also enjoy affordable housing, with the typical home priced at $257,181 (29% less than the typical U.S. home), per Zillow," the article read. "Plus, prices are 7.7% lower than the national average."
The low crime-rate and light traffic rating were the cherry on top for the Rose City.
Tyler wasn't the only town ranked in the top ten for retirees, other Texas cities included:
- Sugar Land, Texas (No. 6)
- Wichita Falls, Texas (No. 8)
- Abilene, Texas (No. 9)
- McAllen, Texas (No. 10)
