TYLER, Texas — Friends and family of Laiyah Mitchell celebrated the life she left behind Tuesday evening in a candlelight vigil and balloon release.
The 7-year-old Dixie Elementary School student died in a car crash earlier this month.
At a candlelight vigil Tuesday, there was an outpouring of support from the community who misses her. Dozens lit candles as they shared their favorite memories of Laiyah. Balloons were also released. Layiah’s mom Dorathy Anderson said she was a ball of energy who never met a stranger.
"She was always helpful. She just wanted to love and be happy. My heart is full from the people who have shown condolences and who have showed up who didn’t know her and the people who do know her," Anderson said. "The day we buried her was the day that she was supposed to go to the father-daughter dance with her dad."
Right now, Laiyah’s family is asking for prayers. Her older sister is still in the hospital. A GoFundMe has been set up for the family.
