TYLER, Texas — Two Tyler police officers were injured after a suspect allegedly punched them during an arret.
According to the Tyler Police Department, officers responded to a welfare call shortly after 12 p.m. in the 500 block of Bandera.
Officers attempted to take 22-year-old Hubert Earl Lake Jr. to the hospital for a mental evaluation. Then, police say Lake punched one of the officers in the face before trying to grab a taser from another officer. Lake punched the second officer in the back of the head several times before he was subdued.
As many as 10 police units responded to the scene.
TPS says both officers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Lake was booked into the Smith County Jail on two charges of assault of a public servant and one charge of attempting to take a weapon from an officer.
