NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A traffic stop turned into an officer-involved shooting in Nacogdoches Friday morning.
According to the Nacogdoches Police Department, an officer attempted to perform a traffic stop on a light-colored Chrysler 300 when the passenger of the vehicle began to fire multiple rounds at the officer in the 1700 block of S. Fredonia Street around 12:40 a.m.
Officials said the vehicle slowed to a stop near the intersection of S. Fredonia and South Street and the passenger attempted to shoot the officer.
The officer also fired shots at the suspect before the suspect vehicle fled westbound with the unidentified shooting suspect, police said.
According to NPD, at least one bullet from the suspect's gun struck the officer's patrol vehicle but the officer was not injured.
As of 3:20 p.m., police are currently initiating a search warrant at the 6900 block of Wooden Road in Nacogdoches.
US Highway 7 has since reopened after another search warrant was executed, according to the press release.
At this moment, it is uncertain whether the suspect was injured.
The Texas Rangers along with the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office, UPD and DPS are investigating the shooting.
