Palestine police arrest shooting suspect

The Palestine Police Department arrested the man they believe is responsible for a March 12 shooting.

Frank Potts, 42, of Palestine was taken into custody shortly after midnight on Thursday when a patrol officer found him hiding in a ditch behind a convenience store after he fled from police and crashed the stolen vehicle he was driving.

Officers with the Palestine Police Department responded to the shooting in the 900 block of San Jacinto, according to a news release from the City of Palestine.

Police discovered Carlos Scott, 34, of Palestine had been shot multiple times. Scott was later transported to a Tyler hospital for treatment.

Detectives identified Potts as the suspect in the shooting. The police department obtained an arrest warrant for Potts three days after the shooting.

On Thursday, a patrol officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a blue and gold Chevrolet pickup speeding on Palestine Avenue.

The pickup fled from the officer and turned into the parking lot of a convenience store in the 1200 block of East Palestine Avenue. The officer pulled into the parking lot and found the pickup had crashed into a ditch behind the store.

The officer located the driver who he recognized as Potts hiding in the ditch near the vehicle. The pickup was reported stolen Monday to the Palestine Police Department.

Potts was taken into cutody without incident.

Potts was transported to the Anderson County Jail where he was booked for the warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and an outstanding warrant from the Palestine Municipal Court.

Potts is being held on a $500,000 bond that was previously set on the aggravated assault warrant. Bond has not been set for the other charges.
