Overton High School football player seriously injured in crash gets released from ICU

He will be heading to rehab on Feb. 1 in Houston. The post said he will attend therapy six days a week while at the Tyler hospital.

The Overton High School football player who severely injured this weekend has been released from the ICU. 

 Christian "Macho" Rodriguez had surgery after he was involved in a one-vehicle crash after leaving his girlfriend's house. A Facebook post from Overton ISD said his spine was severely damaged and immediate surgery was needed. 

In an update shared on social media, a family member said Rodriguez was released from the ICU and he can now have visitors at a Tyler hospital.

"I know his spirits will be highly lifted seeing his friends, teammates and teachers," the post read. 

He will be heading to rehab on Feb. 1 in Houston. The post said he will attend therapy six days a week while at the Tyler hospital. 

The family member thanked people for caring about Rodriguez and requested that they continue praying for his recovery.
