Officials identify firefighters hurt in major crash at Texas-Louisiana border while responding to Hurricane Helene; 1 released from hospital

Capt. Greg Davies, one of the San Diego Urban Search & Rescue - California Task Force 8 (CA-TF8) members, was released from medical care Tuesday.

WASKOM, Texas — One of the California firefighters who was injured in a crash Sunday morning at the Texas-Louisiana border while responding to assist Hurricane Helene victims has been released from the hospital.

According to San Diego Fire-Rescue, Capt. Greg Davies, one of the San Diego Urban Search & Rescue - California Task Force 8 (CA-TF8) members, was released from medical care on Tuesday.

SDFD says Capt. Davies joined the department in 2009 and has been a member of CA-TF8 since 2017.

"He's the planning team manager which means he develops and implements the task force's tactical plans while coordinating and overseeing all planning activities," the SDFD said. "We are thrilled he's able to leave the hospital. We don't yet know when he will return to San Diego. "

The other two firefighters who were injured were identified by the SDFD as Battalion Chief Aide Barbat and Capt. Jesse Schultz.

"The families have requested privacy and that no medical information be shared at this time," the SDFD said. "Please keep our three injured firefighters, their families and the entire department in your thoughts and prayers!"
