CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas — One person is in custody an another is still being sought following a reported robbery of a vehicle and shooting Monday night in Cherokee County,
According to Cherokee County Sheriff Brent Dickson, officials received a call around 9 p.m. regarding a burglary of home in which a vehicle and guns were stolen vehicle. Sheriff Dickson says authorities were told while two armed suspects were stealing a vehicle, they shot at the person trying to stop them. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Sheriff Dickson tells CBS19 the stolen vehicle was later found on the side of Hwy. 79, near Trail to Christ Cowboy Church after the suspects ran out of gas and abandoned the vehicle.
Officials say a deputy spotted two men running from the vehicle into the woods. At that point, Texas Department of Criminal Justice K9s were contacted to help search for the suspects.
Around 11:15 p.m., Jesse Spraggins, 19, of Jacksonville, was taken into custody. As of 1:45 a.m., an additional person of interest, identified as Dalton Hall, 28, of Rusk, is still at large.
Spraggins was booked into the Cherokee County Jail on the following charges:
- Aggravated assault
- Burglary of a habitation
- Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
- Criminal trespass
