Services announced for New Diana teen who died after medical emergency during majorette practice

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 14 from 2 to 6 p.m., while funeral services will begin Monday, July 15 at 11 a.m.

NEW DIANA, Texas — Services have been planned for a New Diana ISD student who died Wednesday.

New Diana High School announced on Facebook that services will be held at the New Diana High School auditorium. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 14 from 2 to 6 p.m., while funeral services will begin Monday, July 15 at 11 a.m.

According to New Diana ISD, Marzano died Wednesday afternoon after experiencing a medical emergency during majorette practice at the elementary gym.

"It is with deep sorrow that I share the heartbreaking news of the passing of one of our beloved students, Amy Marzano," Superintendent Marshall Moore said.  "Amy, who was going to be a junior this upcoming school year, was a dedicated majorette in the New Diana ISD High School Band."

Marzano was transported to the hospital where medical staff tried to stabilize her condition, according to the district. She later passed away Wednesday afternoon. 

"Our hearts go out to Amy's family, friends, and everyone who knew and loved her. She was a bright and talented young woman who will be greatly missed by our entire school community," Moore said in a statement. 

The school district opened the band hall Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon for anyone needing to speak to counselors or support staff.
