New Diana High School scores gold in state military band competition

New Diana ISD was able to finish as the top school for their 3A division within East Texas.

NEW DIANA, Texas — The New Diana High School band brought home gold from the 2023 State UIL Military Marching Band competition in Waco on Tuesday.

New Diana ISD was able to finish as the top school for their 3A division within East Texas. The other high schools in that division were White Oak, Sabine, West Rusk and Troup.

For Aly Martinez, it's been a long time coming as she has been a part of the New Diana band program since eighth grade.

"It's hard to put into words the moment we won. We honestly didn't even think we were going to make top three, but to win first was truly an amazing moment," drum major Aly Martinez said.

Expressing gratitude for his team, the high school band director was excited to see the great turnout of their hard earned victory.

"It's something that you work for all year long, year after year; and for it to actually happen, it's really quite something," New Diana band director Gary Fort said.

Already looking forward to next year the band will continue practicing for their future concerts and strive to win first place again.
