LONGVIEW, Texas — East Texan and country singer Neal McCoy has hit a major milestone on social media.
Sunday, Jan. 7, marked the 2,924th consecutive day (eight straight years) he has recited the "Pledge of Allegiance" on Facebook.
McCoy celebrated the anniversary by posting a video on social media.
According to the Government Publishing Office (GPO), the initial version of the Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy. This version commemorated the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas.
"Over the years, more words were added, and the pledge that we recite now was written in 1954," the GPO said.
He recites the pledge every morning between 9-10 a.m. CT.
