The Houston County Sheriff’s Office was notified of marijuana grow in the Davy Crockett National Forest. Approximately 3,700 small growth marijuana plants were pulled from the ground and delivered to a safe area so the plants could be destroyed.
The joint operation consisted of The Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Game Wardens, Texas Department of Public Safety, US Drug Enforcement Administration, US Forrest Service Law Enforcement Division and members from Lufkin Police.
No suspects were present at the time officials arrived. However, evidence was obtained and members of this operation are processing the evidence in an effort to identify suspects.
Sheriff Darrel Bobbitt would like to remind everyone that uses the Davy Crockett National Forrest should be vigilant and extremely cautious due to dangerous hazards created by these unscrupulous marijuana growers. According to Bobbit, growers dig large holes in the ground for water systems and mixing of fertilizers. He said they have no regard for the safety of others or wildlife.
