KILGORE, Texas — At least one person died in a multi-vehicle crash on I-20 Sunday afternoon in Kilgore.

According to the Kilgore Fire Department, the multi-vehicle wreck occurred in the eastbound lanes at the 589A exit.

The Kilgore Police Department says two out-of-state families were involved in the wreck. One family was flown to a Tyler hospital for treatment. Another family was taken to a Longview medical center before one of the children was flown to Dallas.

The KPD says a small SUV was traveling westbound and came across the undivided median at approximately 93 MPH, and went airborne. It then hit a truck and livestock trailer while in mid-air.

"It is unknown at this time what caused the harmful act, but the investigation continues," the KPD said. "First Responders arrived to find one person had been ejected, and others had to be extracted by Kilgore Rescue and [fire department].

The truck that was traveling east on I-20 was from Florida and had been at a livestock show in Waco. They were traveling back with cows in their trailer.

"Unfortunately, the cows that survived the accident were severely injured and had to be dispatched," the KPD said.
