CENTER, Texas — More than 1,500 residents of Center and Shelbyville are being affected by a natural gas outage as of Friday.

According to city officials, CenterPoint Energy is currently experiencing a natural gas outage and will be urging its customers to not tamper with any natural gas meters at this time.

“Safety is our number-one priority as we work to restore natural gas service,” said John Seale, District Director at CenterPoint Energy.

Officials noted that the affected pipeline is not operated by CenterPoint Energy.

Currently, crews are working to manually turn the gas meters on and are making required repairs which are expected to take several days to complete.
