Mobile home destroyed, dog killed after fire in Whitehouse area

Smith County Emergency Services District No. 2 spokesperson Nikki Simmons said crews responded quickly, but the home is considered destroyed.

WHITEHOUSE, Texas — A mobile home was destroyed and a dog was killed after a fire in the Whitehouse area Tuesday afternoon.

The fire happened around 1:30 p.m. in 18000 block of County Road 2323 in Smith County when a grass fire spread to the mobile home, which was unoccupied at the time, Smith County Emergency Services District No. 2 spokesperson Nikki Simmons said.

Simmons said crews responded quickly, but the home is considered destroyed. When the homeowner arrived, they gave the impression that a child was inside; however, firefighters learned it was a dog. That dog died because of the fire, Simmons said.

She emphasized that it's important for crews to have the right information so that they can approach the situation depending on the structure type and who exactly may be in the home.

In addition to ESD 2 crews, the Whitehouse Fire Department also assisted with the fire.
