POLICE: Man arrested in Palestine for robbery at First Convenience Bank

The suspect, Joseph White, 20, of Palestine, allegedly demanded a large sum of money from a bank employee, threatening to use force if the employee did not comply.

PALESTINE, Texas — A man has been arrested in Palestine for an attempted bank robbery Friday.

The Palestine Police Department said they responded to a call about a robbery in progress at a First Convenience Bank located inside of Wal-Mart around 3:41 p.m. The suspect, Joseph White, 20, of Palestine, allegedly demanded a large sum of money from a bank employee, threatening to use force if the employee did not comply. A bank employee was able to text a relative stating they were being robbed. A 911 call was made soon after.

White was still at the bank counter when officers arrived. No weapons were found in his possession. White was transported to the Anderson County Jail and booked without incident. He has been charged with robbery.

"It was unknown at the time if this guy was armed and the Officers handled this extremely well in a crowded store." PPD Chief Mark Harcrow said. "I commend the Officers on their fast response and safely taking this individual into custody."
