LONGVIEW, Texas — Police arrested a man in Longview who is accused of trying to kidnap a woman on a hiking trail.
Jelan Deaaron Armond Williams, 27, of Kilgore, was arrested around 7 p.m., Friday.
Longview police say they responded to a call about an attack on Paul Boorman Trail that occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. The victim said a man, later identified as Williams, approached and grabbed her from behind, attempting to cover her mouth, but was able to break free and escape.
The witness' description of the suspect was similar to another encounter that occurred around 5 p.m., prompting officers to search the area for the suspect. Bystanders were able to locate Williams shortly after, and he was detained by officers.
Williams is now charged with attempted kidnapping as well as previous warrants in Gregg County. He is held in Gregg County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
