Man accused in deadly standoff pleads not guilty to all charges

CARTHAGE — A Carthage man pleaded not guilty Thursday on several charges, including murder, relating to a February standoff that led to the death of a woman.

Jeffrey Mickens, 48, is accused of kidnapping a two-year-old child and shooting two women during a standoff. One of the women, 44-year-old Elaine Johnson, was killed.

Mickens is charged of two counts of aggravated kidnapping, murder, attempted capital murder of a peace office or fireman and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He remains in the Panola County Jail with a $2,307,000 bond against him.
