LUFKIN, Texas — U.S. Highway 59 in Lufkin has reopened after a major crash Wednesday morning involving three 18-wheelers.
Lufkin Police and Fire Departments were on the scene of the wreck.
Officials said the crash occurred on U.S 59 south, near the intersection of Southwood Drive and FM 324 just before 8 a.m. Extensive damage occurred to two of the three trucks involved. One of the vehicles lost its load of 25-foot steel pipes, according to a spokesperson for the city of Lufkin.
Another truck, a tanker, held "effectively weed-killer" according to the Lufkin Fire Department's HAZMAT team. The tank leaked briefly, before the HAZMAT team stopped it.
The driver of the car receiving the most damage did not sustain major injuries, and was able to walk to the stretcher that took him to the hospital. The tanker driver did not need medical assistance.
