LUFKIN, Texas — Lufkin police have released the name of the person injured after a shooting Tuesday night.
Officials identified the victim as 17-year-old La' Patrick Wright, of Nacogdoches, who remains in critical condition at a Houston hospital.
According to the Lufkin Police Department, just before 8:30 p.m., dispatch received a call of a wounded man in the horse-shoe drive of Lufkin Middle School. The caller reported the victim was speaking to two other men before the caller heard gunshots.
Four Lufkin police officers were working security at the Lufkin and Nacogdoches basketball game when they heard the shots. They ran to the front of the school to find Wright on the ground.
Officials say the suspects fled down Denman Avenue toward Martha Street. Wright’s friend described them as two black males - one tall wearing a dark, colored hoodie and the other wearing light-blue pants with a white stripe.
Officials believe the shooting had nothing to do with a school rivalry.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Lufkin Police Department at 936-633-0356 or Crime Stoppers at 936-639-TIPS.
