LUFKIN, Texas — Lufkin police have identified a man found dead near the side of a road in the morning of July 2.
David Meinerding, 67, of Lufkin was found when a passerby saw him around 5:15 a.m. in a grassy area beside the road in the 100 block of Collins Street. Officers then found him dead and they believe he was there for several hours.
Lufkin police said they encountered aggressive dogs near Meinerding's body but it is unclear if the dogs had any involvement in the death.
His cause of death is currently unknown and an autopsy has been ordered, police said. Foul play is not suspected.
