Several groups, including churches, businesses and nonprofits, are coming together to show love to the city of Tyler and neighboring areas.
The Love Thy City event will be held on July 20 from 1 to 6 p.m. at W.T. Brookshire Conference Center in Tyler. It will be hosted by Love Thy City of East Texas, a community-driven religious nonprofit that is fueled by love, compassion, and faith for the Tyler community and surrounding areas.
Love Thy City will have free food truck vouchers, a prayer room with local pastors and music teams, free window AC units raffle and free Christian counseling. There will also be a Christmas in July with special giveaways, including free bikes, scooters, backpacks and school supplies.
People can sign up to attend free event and reserve your family place at lovethycity.org
On Tuesday, hundreds of people attended the Love Thy City Lunch with Friends at Green Acres Baptist Church Crosswalk Center ahead of the big event. They were treated to live music, food, fellowship and a preview of July.
The vision of Love Thy City to show love through spiritual gifts and tangible acts of service.
"The color of my skin, versus the color of your skin. I’m a female, you’re a male whatever it is there is some type of division between the people in the community," Nia Pruitt, spiritual coordinator. "And it’s so important for us to have this day because it helps us look past those things. We’re coming together for one purpose and that is because we are a part of this community."
