Longview police say "Just Stay Put" after suspect tries to evade arrest

Police are urging people to not run from authorities after the arrest of 23-year-old Longview native, Catavion Stinson.

LONGVIEW — Catavion Stinson, a 23-year-old Longview man, was arrested after he tried running from police officers during a traffic stop just before 8 p.m. Tuesday on MLK Boulevard.

According to the Longview Police Department, Stinson was riding in a vehicle that officers stopped for failing to show a front license plate.

After the vehicle stopped, Stinson got out of it and ran.

He was chased by two officials from the LPD Special Investigative and Apprehension Unit while the other officer stayed with the other two people in the vehicle.

A couple minutes went by before Stinson was eventually caught in the woods and arrested for evading arrest or detention with a previous conviction and three outstanding warrants.

In a Facebook post, the Longview Police Department is urging people that think of running away from authorities to, "Just Stay Put."

Stinson is awaiting bond at the Gregg County Jail.
