Longview Police Department mourns loss of retired chief

GREGG COUNTY — Officers from the Longview Police Department are mourning the loss of retired chief Don Dingler, who passed away in his home on Wednesday.

According to the department, Chief Dingler started serving the Longview community in 1973, was promoted to Chief of Police in 2011 and retired in 2015.

Dingler was a Longview native and graduate of Longview High School and UT Tyler.

During his career that spanned more than 40 years, Chief Dingler served his community in patrol, traffic, training, jail services, and narcotics.

While working for LPD, he graduated from the FBI National Academy and the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas.

In a post on LPD's Facebook page, the department saluted his memory and honored his service by saying, "Chief Dingler was a smiling face around the police department and the community for over a quarter of a century and his direction and kindness will be dearly missed."

They also sent prayers to the chief's family and friends.

As of now, services are pending with Radar Funeral Home.
