LONGVIEW, Texas — A Longview man was sentenced to 30 years in prison Thursday for murdering his girlfriend while fighting over a gun in January 2022.

Jurors found Adrian Devon Grissom, 32, guilty of murder following a jury trial in the 124th District Court in connection with the Jan. 16, 2022 shooting death of Cyan Winn, 23, according to the Gregg County judicial records. On Tuesday, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to an arrest affidavit, Grissom admitted that he was yelling in Winn's face and Winn started to remove a handgun from her purse. She then told Grissom to back up.

Grissom told police he did not back up and he pushed Winn to the ground from a chair as she pulled the handgun out. He told police that he tried to get the handgun from Winn, the affidavit stated.

As she crawled away with the gun, Grissom and Winn continued fighting for it, and Grissom gained full control and pushed Winn away. The document said Grissom told police his finger was inside the trigger, which he then pulled and fired the gun one time. He admitted he shot Winn, causing her death.
