LONGVIEW, Texas — A fire broke out shortly after midnight Friday at the Longview ISD Education Support Center, causing significant damage to the northwest wing of the building.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Longview Fire Department.
Due to the extent of the damage, the building will be closed today, but Education Support Center staff are encouraged to work from home. Staff are also reminded to attend the scheduled sendoff event at 1:30 p.m. at Longview High School.
Superintendent Dr. Marla Sheppard praised the Longview Fire Department for their professionalism and rapid response.
"We are incredibly grateful to the firefighters and first responders who acted so quickly to contain the fire and prevent further damage," Sheppard said. "Their dedication and skill ensured that no one was harmed and that the impact was minimized as much as possible."
Dr. Sheppard also extended warm holiday wishes to the entire LISD community.
"I want to take a moment to wish everyone a safe and joyous Thanksgiving," she said. "Despite today's challenges, we have so much to be thankful for, and I hope everyone enjoys time with loved ones."
