LONGVIEW, Texas — Longview ISD trustees on Monday learned the five new facilities funded through the $456 million bond should be complete with two to three years.
New additions from the bond include the Transportation Center, Early Childhood Learning Center, a multi-purpose indoor facility and a natatorium. The ECLC will have 30 classrooms, a library, a kitchen, and a gymnasium. The Transportation Center addition will fix current space problems.
During the meeting, Procedeo Program Director Paul Miller said the Transportation Center is expected to be complete by 2026, and the other structures should be ready to celebrate with a ribbon cutting by 2027. Procedeo is overseeing the construction of the facilities.
According to Longview ISD, the multi-purpose indoor facility will have a 120-yard turf field for marching band and sports, batting cages, golf simulation, a weight room, locker rooms and coaches' offices. The natatorium will offer regulation 25-meter lanes, a diving well with boards, and more spectator seating.
E4 Contracting owner/operator Mr. John S. Erickson IV said the soccer, baseball, and tennis courts will receive upgraded lighting, along with other possible upgrades. Lobo Stadium and Judson Stadium will also be getting lighting and facility upgrades within 30 months.
Additionally, the board approved spending $175,000 for materials and installation of glass reinforcement film on all campuses and district facilities. These funds will come from the School Safety Standards Formula grant and the Safety and Facilities Enhancement Grant.
Wellness Pointe plans
Wellness Pointe CEO Mr. Chad Jones said the health clinic at Longview High School is expected to be complete by January 2025. The clinic will be in the lower library and construction is ongoing.
There are plans to expand health clinic to Bailey Elementary and Judson Middle School, with the possibility of more sites as well, Jones said.
"The clinic is aimed at increasing access to medical and mental health services for both students and staff at LISD," he said.
School leaders said the clinic aims to remove barriers to student care, increase academic success, reduce absences and improve long-term health outcomes.
New playgrounds for Ware, Bramlette Elementary Schools
The trustees approved spending over $345,000 for the design, repair, replacement, and installation of playground equipment at Ware and Bramlette elementary campuses. This comes after a safety inspection found critical repairs were needed to improve the safety of the playgrounds.
The approved work will be carried out by Child’s Play, with funding allocated from the district’s 2024-25 general operating budget.
