Longview ISD board member steps down due to relocation

"My home and love will always be vested in Longview," Shan Bauer said. "I will forever bleed green and be a proud Lobo."

LONGVIEW, Texas — A Longview ISD board trustee announced that she will resign from her position as her family will be moving because of a new job opportunity.

Place 5 board member Shandreka "Shan" Bauer submitted her resignation effective June 1. She said in a letter to Superintendent Dr. James Wilcox that a new professional opportunity would require her family to relocate.

"My home and love will always be vested in Longview," she said. "I will forever bleed green and be a proud Lobo."

According to the school district, Bauer was elected to the school board for the first time in 2016 and she advocated equal treatment and accountability throughout Longview and the state of Texas.

"It has been an absolute pleasure to serve my community, my home, and the students of Longview ISD for the past seven years," Bauer said. "My heart will always be with the city of Longview and the students that we serve. Looking back, I could not have imagined that I would be stepping down from a district I love so much."

Wilcox said Bauer's dedication to education left an "indelible mark on the students, staff, and community."

The Place 5 seat will be filled through an election in November. Those who live in the Place 5 area of Longview ISD can contact Board President Michael Tubb with any concerns or questions.

Campuses that are a part of Place 5 include the Playing For Keeps/Early Childhood Center, Bailey and Hudson PEP elementaries, Foster Middle and Longview Early Graduation High.
