LONGVIEW, Texas — The Longview High School Choir will continue its travelling performances as the Lobos head to Hawaii this upcoming spring.
On Monday, the Longview ISD trustees approved an out-of-state trip to Hawaii for the choir to participate in the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War Ending Ceremonies and Celebration. The students will be in Honolulu from March 25 to 30.
LHS Choir instructor Melody McMullen said after the choir's last performance in France this summer for the 80th anniversary of D-Day, they were verbally invited to sing in Hawaii.
"Our students will have a wonderful opportunity to learn about the impact of the Vietnam War on our nation and our veterans. In addition, they will have a chance to visit Pearl Harbor," McMullen said.
McMullen predicts that about 30 to 35 students will attend the trip with several chaperones and school officials.
Students are paying for the trip through fundraising.
One of the fundraisers will be its second annual Golf Tournament at Tempest Golf Club on Feb. 28. The lunch and opening ceremony will be at 11 a.m. The tournament will be a four-man scramble and cost $500 per team and $130 per person.

The choir will also sing the "Star-Spangled Banner" on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas during the Mavericks' rematch against the Boston Celtics.
