LONGVIEW, Texas — The City of Longview temporarily closed their compost site Tuesday due to a fire, but plans to reopen Thursday.
City of Longview spokesperson Richard Yeakley said that crews were performing a controlled burn at the site to help reduce the volume of material when a nearby pile that wasn't scheduled for burning caught fire.
The city closed the compost site as it worked to regain control of the burn. Yeakley said that as of Tuesday afternoon, that fire has been controlled.
The compost site is closed Wednesday in observance of Juneteenth, with it likely reopening Thursday, according to Yeakley.
