Longview animal services offering free microchipping

It’s national microchipping month and Longview animal services has been giving out free microchipping services to the community.

LONGVIEW, Texas — It’s National microchipping month and Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center has been giving out free microchipping services to the community.

"My last dog came up missing and I never found her, and I had her for three years, so it’s super important because they'll be able to be found," dog owner Stella Hollingsworth said.

The love Stella Hollingsworth has for her dog Sophia is easy to see. She wants to make sure her pet is microchipped so she can be secure anywhere she goes.

"I don’t have to worry about her, you know it’s heartbreaking after you can't find one," Hollingsworth said.

Longview Animal services say they have chipped more than 120 pets this month.

"This is monumental for the offices here in Longview, the last thing anyone wants to do is have to bring an animal into the shelter when there is a loving home out there for them," Longview Animal services supervisor Saylor Knox said.

Two things make microchipping beneficial, it helps animals get back to the home where they belong, which can keep them out of overcrowded shelters.

"The second that we scan them, the number pops up on the screen here and we’re able to get the information off of it and bring that animal straight back home," Knox said.

Pet owners, you still have a chance to have your pets microchipped, free services are offered through the end of this month at the Longview Animal Care and Adoption center, or you can check a local animal shelter near you.
