LIST: Partial solar eclipse viewing parties in East Texas

There will be several opportunities for you to catch a glimpse of the solar eclipse on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 10:25 a.m. - 1:32 p.m.

TYLER, Texas — East Texas are you ready for the annular solar eclipse? 

There will be several opportunities for you to catch a glimpse of the partial solar eclipse on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 10:25 a.m. - 1:32 p.m.

Here are a few viewing opportunities happening on Saturday:

TJC Science Center Viewing Party

  • The Tyler Junior College Earth and Space Science Center will be hosting a free viewing party on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Organizers will be passing out free solar eclipse glasses while supplies last
  • Solar telescopes and observation stations will be set up for viewers to enjoy
  • There will be a livestream located inside the Hudnall Planetarium's 40-foot domed theater

TJC Homecoming Viewing Party

  • The TJC Alumni Association will host a Homecoming Tailgate & Solar Eclipse Viewing Party at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Brookshire Conference Center before the game
  • This year's theme is "3,2,1... The Countdown has Begun" to highlight the eclipse before the homecoming game at 3 p.m. against the Blinn College Buccaneers
  • Guests will receive lunch, solar eclipse viewing glasses and a homecoming eclipse treat
  • Food truck will also be available to purchase other options

Partial Solar Eclipse at Tyler State Park

  • Visitors can head to the Tyler State Park from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday for a annular eclipse viewing
  • The Silver Canoe Park store will be offering solar eclipse viewing glasses for purchase
  • Individuals are encouraged to meet in the Northside Day-Use area

Annular Solar Eclipse Event at Tyler Public Library

  • Tyler Public Library will be hosting their annular solar eclipse event on Saturday from 10:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. 
  • Individuals are advised to make their way to the Makerspace third floor for the viewing
  • Attendees will be able to learn more about the event and make a viewer craft
  • The library is located at 201 S. College Ave. in Tyler

East Texas Psychic Fair

  • The East Texas Psychic Fair will be located at 7424 South Broadway Ave. in Tyler from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday in the Courtyard by Marriott Tyler
  • Organizers will be offering eclipse glasses for purchase while supplies last

Quitman Community Annular Solar Eclipse Party

  • Located at Quitman Junior High School, visitors are encouraged to bring a box to build a pinhole viewer
  • Families can also have a picnic while safely viewing the eclipse
  • The event is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at 1101 East Goode Street in Quitman

Officials are advising people to not directly look into the sun during the duration of the eclipse as it can cause damage to your eyes.
