LINDALE, Texas — The city of Lindale will kick off their weekend-long Total Eclipse of the Park event on Saturday morning at Picker's Pavilion.
There will be activities for all ages both inside Picker's Pavilion and at Darden Harvest Park.
The opening ceremony begin at 11 a.m. Saturday. The event will run all the way through Monday, with different activities scheduled for each day. The grand finale on Monday will involve everyone gathering in Darden Harvest Park to watch the eclipse together.
"We have artists who are going to do installations of character faces inside the glass windows. That's going to be like little caricatures inside glass windows for people to be a part of the artwork," artist Kerian Massey said.
Saturday activities include extreme games in Darden Harvest Park, a classic car, truck and cycle show, an art experience inside Picker's Pavilion with STEM and STEAM demonstrations outside. There will also be shopping vendors and food trucks as well as kids and family activities outside Picker's.
The concert on Saturday at The Cannery End-Cap Stage will have Jay Statham at 5 p.m., Matt James at 6:45 p.m. and Joey Greer at 8:30 p.m.
On Sunday, activities will continue at 11 a.m. with the art experience, STEM and STEAM demonstrations, vendors and things for kids and families to do.
The Cosmic Costume Contest will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday with registration set from 2 to 3:30 p.m. All costumes must be space or science fiction themed. The contest is broken up into adults, kids and pets categories. Prizes will be awarded for the winners.
Also on Sunday, the "Back to the Future" movie will be shown in the park at sundown.
Then for the big day, Picker's will open again at 11 a.m. Monday for the art experience and food trucks. The eclipse viewing will run from 12:24 to 3:04 p.m. with totality happening from 1:42 to 1:45 p.m. Picker's Pavilion and the food trucks will close at 5 p.m.
