LINDALE — The Lindale Independent School District is hoping to pass a $32.4 million bond in the November election.
The Board of Trustees voted unanimously Monday to send the proposal to the November election for approval. The board says the bond is to meet the district's growing needs.
According to the district, the new money would help enhance security, "we're going to improve the camera system for security and also the buzzer system, entryway," Superintendent Stan Surratt said.
There district also hired two officers for the upcoming school year.
"Our school board approved two additional resource officers to our staff for a total of five," the superintendent said.
For the expansion, the district wants to add 23 new classrooms, expand the cafeteria, add an auxiliary gym and make improvements for extra-curricular activities for Lindale High School.
The district also wants to build a multi-purpose activity center and renovate Eagle Stadium.
“We’re making a plan that we hope will last 20 years,” Suratt said. “The purpose of this package is addressing our weakest spaces.”
The projected tax rate impact of the bond will be about four cents or $4.85 per month.
The average homeowner would pay around $58.00 a year.
Seniors that are 65 or older will be exempt from the tax with the homestead exemption.
