Lindale ISD teachers receive more than $29,000 in classroom grants

One of the grants was to fund the “Create.Communicate.Cope.” program to provide sand trays for grades pre-kindergarten through sixth grade.

LINDALE, Texas — The marching band led the way Thursday morning as the Lindale ISD Education Foundation surprised teachers with grant checks.

The education foundation awarded more than $29,000 that will be used to purchase new and innovative tools for the classrooms.

One of the grants was to fund the “Create.Communicate.Cope.” program to provide sand trays for grades pre-kindergarten through sixth grade.  The sand trays are used as an effective combination of play and art for students to express themselves both verbally and non-verbally.

"It's actually for all the elementary campuses here in Lindale. It's for sand trays, which is part of play therapy," counselor Cherri Straus said. " We have students, especially the younger ones,  that have difficulty expressing feelings and things like that and so the sand tray therapy is something we've been interested in."
