LINDALE, Texas — EDITOR'S NOTE: This story previously reported Maddox was a baseball coach for Lindale as listed on the website. He was on the roster for this year but resigned before the season began. The district confirmed to CBS 19 he only coached the football team.
A former Lindale ISD assistant football coach has been arrested for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
According to Lindale ISD, Blake Maddox, 23, started with the district at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year as an assistant football coach. Maddox is a former baseball player at TJC and UT-Tyler.
The school launched an investigation on Jan. 28 after learning of a possible relationship between Maddox and a student. The results of the school's investigation was turned over to the Lindale ISD Police Department and Smith County District Attorney's Office.
In a copy of the arrest warrant affidavit obtained by the Tyler Morning Telegraph, the victim told school administrators Maddox had talked to her on both Instagram and Snapchat, where he sent her explicit pictures.
The victim also told investigators they went to a private home on more than one occasion, where the two kissed. According to the Tyler Morning Telegraph, the affidavit states Maddox did not deny kissing the victim.
The victim told investigators Maddox also touched her inappropriately one, the newspaper says.
According to the district, Maddox resigned last week after the district found out about the allegations.
After an investigation by the Lindale ISD Police Department, an arrest warrant was issued for Maddox.
Blake Maddox, 23, was arrested Tuesday and charged with inappropriate relationship between educator and student. His bond was set at $20,000.
The district has released the following statement:
On January 28, 2020, Lindale ISD was alerted of a possible inappropriate relationship between an employee and a high school student. LISD administrators immediately began an investigation. The employee in question has resigned from the district and the results of the school investigation have been turned over to the Lindale ISD Police department and the Smith County District Attorney’s office. The Lindale ISD Police department did a more extensive investigation into this matter. A warrant for arrest has been executed, therefore, Lindale ISD will not comment any further about this incident or former employee. The mission of Lindale ISD is to provide a safe and secure environment for all students and staff. I am proud of the prompt attention and the work of Lindale High School administrators and of the efforts of the Lindale ISD Police Department.
