Life jacket, CPR saves boy from almost drowning in East Texas

The Gun Barrel City Fire Department said this incident underscores the importance of watching your children when they are in the water and wearing life jackets.

GUN BARREL CITY, Texas — A boy is recovering after he survived a near drowning thanks to the help of a life jacket and CPR measures in Gun Barrel City. 

According to a Facebook post by the Gun Barrel City Fire Department, the boy jumped off the second deck of a boathouse wearing a life jacket Saturday afternoon in the 100 block of Camino Robles Street.  

But he was unconscious when he surfaced. Officials said an adult immediately began CPR and rescue breathing.

When the Gun Barrel City firefighters and police officers arrived on the scene, the boy was breathing and alert. He was taken to a local hospital.

The Gun Barrel City Fire Department said this incident underscores the importance of watching your children when they are in the water, wearing life jackets and being trained in CPR.  

"Because of this, the incident had a positive outcome," the fire department said.
