TYLER, Texas — The Lake Palestine Resort hosted a bonfire tornado relief benefit event Sunday to raise money for the marina after an EF-1 tornado caused significant damage to the area in late May.
The event was organized to help keep the business' doors open and make sure the "little village" continues to have a place to live.
The fundraiser featured live music and food trucks. With a special event like this, residents and workers of Lake Palestine Resort like bartender Shelby Soto are thankful to see the rainbow after the storm.
"This means we can keep the store open and keep going so we’re pretty grateful and appreciative of that," Soto said.
The community has come together to make this possible. They say the support from the community is what’s keeping them going each day.
"The way that the community has showed up for us has been absolutely incredible. I will look at gratitude completely different for the rest of my life just because of how we've been treated through this process," said Hailee Wolfe, wife of Lake Palestine Resort owner.
All proceeds of this event are helping the partnering food truck get back on their feet and to continue Lake Palestine’s rebuilding process.
