LUFKIN, Texas — Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter is partnering with Petco Love, a nonprofit organization dedicated to animal welfare, to administer free vaccines Friday.
From noon to 5 p.m. Friday, the shelter will be offering the CANINE DAPPv vaccine, which protects against:
- Distemper: A viral disease affecting the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and central nervous systems.
- Hepatitis (Adenovirus-2): Affects the liver and other organs.
- Parvovirus: A highly contagious virus causing severe gastrointestinal illness.
- Parainfluenza: A virus causing respiratory illness.
They will also be providing the FELINE 1-HCP vaccine, which protects against:
- Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis: A herpes virus causing respiratory infections.
- Calicivirus: Causes respiratory infections and oral disease.
- Panleukopenia (Feline Distemper): A highly contagious and often fatal viral disease.
In a press release, the City of Lufkin said that these are vaccines pet owners should be administering to their pets annually, along with the rabies vaccine, which must be given by a vet.
